On May 7, 2025, Northland Power Inc. announced the commercial operation of the Oneida Energy Storage Project, Canada's largest battery energy storage system, located in Haldimand County, Ontario. The installed capacity of energy storage larger than 1 MW—and connected to the grid—in Canada may increase from 552 MW at the end of 2024 to 1,149 MW in 2030, based solely on 12 projects currently under construction 1. A-CAES plants are designed to store off-peak or surplus electricity and via an efficient, closed loop system. This 250 MW / 1,000 MWh facility, completed ahead of schedule and under budget, strengthens grid.
