If each battery cell in parallel had its own 15A nickel strip connection to the next battery in series, you''d have 5 independent 12v batteries that arerated for 15A and are properly sized, adding a strip between them allows them to compensate for minor differences in voltage and capacity while also naturally balancing the 5 12v batteries together.

When you get the battery pack initially you need to carefully remove the heat shrink tubing. This can be done carefully with a mat knife, but be careful to not cut the wires or into the BMS circuit board. A battery pack usually has a number of cell groups in parallel then connected together in series.

Where it is most useful is in a small battery pack that has cells that are capable of putting out very high amps, because nickel has much more resistance. The best cap for this method is nickel-plated steel, but pure nickel works in the power range of the small.kWeld and Malectrics welders. P. pullin-gs 1 kW. Joined Jul 31, 2009 Messages

A nickel battery can be just as good as a copper battery, it just takes a lot more layers of nickel and a lot wider sections of nickel strip. The problem is that some batteries need to be so compact, that there is simply not enough space between the cells and simply not enough cells, in general, to be able to push around big currents without

The upper samples are pure nickel ones, and the bottom ones are nickel plated steel. The corrosion is clearly shown. This doesn''t discard the steel for welding purposes, if the strips are in good condition would be enough for batteries that will be used in dry environments. Learn MoreThe nickel strip on the battery packs I have is approx 0.3mm thick and is nickel-coated steel strip. It is welded 4 times per cell per side (2 weld operations, 4 indents from the spot welding pins). The diameter of the indents is approximately 1mm or perhaps 0.8mm. My current approach: The pliers look like these:
I have disassembled my 13P14S battery by tearing/rotating the strips of with pliers. Tips: Don't try to force all the nickel off, you might puncture the cell otherwise*. Keep a bucket with sand/water nearby. Remember that the casing is connected to the negative electrode. *Only the negative terminals were punctured.
The method I use for disassembling the batteries is to get a pair of snips (My favourite type is the sidecutters) and bite on a corner of the battery pack's plastic enclosure. This will sacrifice the aesthetic appearance of the battery so you should do it on a corner that isn't exposed when the battery is installed.
They use a large box-cutter type knife and a hammer to cut the existing nickel or nickel-steel strip from the individual cells. This is the kind of knife with snap-off blade segments. You want to use the large style, not the small ones. Place the group of cells flat (horizontally) on your work table.
The first one is only applicable when your battery isn't declared dead by the battery controller: Solder the new cells in parallel to the old ones and cut out the old ones afterwards. This is easier with two or three cells in parallel: cut one out, solder in a new one, cut the other (s) out and solder in the rest.
I should have made and used a cell welding device instead probably, since the nickel strips are so much thinner. 51nb X210 with community EC mod, me_cleaner and recelled 99W*h battery; X230 with coreboot, me_cleaner and nitrocaster's FHD mod as a backup; R500 for guests; T60 just for the looks.
